Day 2 in the village - part 1

Lectio Divino on the bus on the way to the village -  Luke 16: 19-31

The children were so excited - they were running beside the bus as we drove into the village

Morning devotion in the village -  Celebrating National Day of Women

Prior to coming on this trip, NCC Kidzone learned about mission trips and created a banner that they all signed.  Josie Kiggins presented the banner to the children of the Tierra Nueva.

Also, we presented this beautiful cross to the village, handcrafted by a talented member of NCC.  We had it engraved with Philippians 1:3  I thank my God every time I remember you.

We played games in between all our activities!

Katy Kovac had a great idea to encourage the village to keep their land clean of litter as it was given to us by God and we should take care of it.  We gave the children the challenge to collect 10 pieces of trash and their reward was a cross necklace, handmade by our Kingdom kids.  They loved it and had a great time picking up trash!

Before

The village has a Health Community Center that the government staffed with a nurse/ob-gyn medical professional.  Today we painted the building inside and out.
After

After we finished painting,  we were invited for lunch into the home of Esmirelda and Jorge, mother and son.   She birthed 10 children and has 60 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.  Esmirelda told her emotional story of up until one year ago, she had no place to call her own.  She is overwhelmingly grateful to Agros for her home as is Jorge.  He is 40 years old and now lives with his mother since his father passed away 6 months ago.  He travels 1 hour by horse or by foot to manage their farm crops of coffee, beans and cocoa.  He says his life now has meaning and purpose.  Jorge's  one plea was for the road to be paved because when it rains, the mud becomes so deep up to the horse’s belly. Together we prayed blessings over this family and for continued development of heir land.

Kate Kiggins is a kindergarten teacher in Pittsburgh and she was able to visit the Tierra Nueva village school and talk to the teachers.  The kids go to school in morning and afternoon shifts.  Oftentimes them don't go to school because they lack supplies.
